Lauren Bellhouse is a Senior Program Associate for the EngenderHealth-led Fistula Care Plus project. She is a public health professional with over seven years of experience specializing in maternal and child health, mHealth, integrated community case management, and health systems strengthening. She has previously worked on such projects as MNCH/HIV service integration with UNICEF, training of MNCH and nutrition focused community health workers with Helen Keller International- Philippines, and establishing a community health worker training program for low-literacy traditional birth attendants in Sierra Leone with Concern Worldwide. Ms. Bellhouse received a BA from Emory University and her MPH from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
On July 29th, over 300 delegates from development partners throughout the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) region met in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso for the first WAHO Good Practices Forum. Six representatives from Fistula Care Plus were among the attendees, representing FC+ West Africa/Niger, FC+ Nigeria, and our global technical team.
EngenderHealth is pleased to share the news that Dr. Lauri Romanzi has joined the Fistula Care Plus team, taking over the key position of Project Director from the beloved Karen Beattie. We would like to warmly welcome Dr. Romanzi to Fistula Care Plus and look forward to her leadership as the project moves forward!
On 23 May 2015, Fistula Care Plus will join UNFPA along with other UN Agencies and global partners in commemorating the annual International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. This year’s theme, “End fistula, restore women’s dignity,” highlights the inequalities related to fistula and the unfortunate ability of this persisting morbidity to rob women of their woman dignity and quality of life. By commemorating 23 May, FC+ joins the international community in working to raise awareness and intensifying activities toward ending obstetric fistula.
